The Perks Of Being Ordinary

Chances are, if you are reading this post, you are an ordinary person who is currently living an average life.

Many of us, myself included, dream of being more. We dream of being free from the humdrum routine of everyday life. We dream of being scoped out by a mentor to pursue our dreams, we dream of gracing magazine covers and having people hang on our every word or social media post. We dream of being more than we currently are.

However, I believe that if we are constantly trying to be successful or striving to be the best, we often forget the life we are currently living. We are so focused on being the best, that we may not realize that what already have in front of us might be amazing as well.

As a society, we often focus on the extraordinary, whether it be a new celebrity coming up in the entertainment ranks, brutal crimes or devastating natural disasters. We are so focused on finding the next best thing that we forget about the everyday heroes, the people who make our world a better place.

We are so focused on finding the extraordinary, we forget about the ordinary.

So I propose an exercise in finding the ordinary which we have forgotten.

Turn off your electronic devices and take a look around. Take a good long look around where you currently are. Notice the little things, like the ground beneath your feet or the lights in the ceiling. If there are other people around, take notice of them too. If you’re feeling social, maybe strike up a small conversation. Smile, make eye contact. Notice your surroundings, and take note of how you fit into them. Then when you’re done, let me know what you think.

I hope you have an average, ordinary day.

Chapters 320, 321, 322, 323, 324, 325 & 326: Listen

Happy Friday!

Like I said in my last note, I’ve been sick for the past few days, and haven’t been able to blog. I’m sorry I haven’t been around, but I’m glad to say I’m feeling much better!

I was in New York City recently, and a man helped me to hail said something to me that I found very inspiring. He said, “The more you listen, the better your life will be”. And he’s right! Listening is a huge part of any relationship, and the more people listen to each other, the stronger the relationship will be. Listening is important in any relationship, new or old. Listening allows you to gain new insight into someone’s personal life, and it’s a way for you to share personal thoughts and feelings with others.

Listening means paying attention to what others are saying, and if you pay attention, you could garner valuable information. Advice about cleaning, life, relationships, jobs, you name it. There will always be someone who knows something new, and is willing to share it with you.

Listening doesn’t just mean when you are face-to-face. It can take place through social media, texting, Skyping, calling. Any way to communicate helps. Communication is key for listening, because it can help move the conversation along, and help the relationship grow!

Listening is also a two-way thing. You can’t be the only one listening, the other person (or other people) have to listen too! That’s one of the most important parts of a relationship, knowing that the other person (or people) are listening to what you have to say, and responding with their opinions and ideas!

Listening can help in many aspects of your life, so why not start today!

Have an amazing weekend! xxoo

Chapter 108: Other People Have Emotions Too

Happy Friday!

Sometimes it feels like what I have to say is never good enough, that I’m wrong and always will be. It’s frustrating, because while I know and understand that people have thoughts, emotions, beliefs and pasts that they don’t wish to share or are haunted by them…it’s not alright to attack another person who is only trying to help them. Instead of being able to sit down and have a honest conversation about it, it only builds a wall between, straining the relationship until eventually if it’s not resolved, will snap and crumble.

But like I said in my last post, at least I’ll always have music to help me get through anything.

Hope you all have an amazing weekend!
