Chapters 374, 375, 376, 377, 378, 379, 380, 381, 382, 383, 384, 385 & 386 : Lost and Life

Happy Thursday!

I apologize for not posting, I had midterms and a lot of other things on my plate. I may be posting sparingly in the next few weeks as I head towards the end of the semester and classes get busier. I’ll try my best to post as often as I can.

Do you ever feel like you’re in a constant rut, where you don’t know where your life is going, and you don’t know what direction to turn? I know I’ve probably discussed this in previous posts, but it’s a constant issue.

Lately, I’ve been feeling confused and lost. I’m considering switching my major (Psychology to Media and Communication), and I’m struggling in a few classes. I feel like I’m unsure what I want to do with my life, and the thought that in a few years, I’ll have to go out into the “real world” and find a job is a scary thing. I know people say to focus on one day at a time, but lately, it’s getting more difficult to focus on anything at all.

But it’s time to take control and buck up, because I am the only one who controls my fate and future, and I’m thinking it’s time to take matters into my own hands and get stuff done!

So, what do you do when you’re feeling lost?

Thank you so much for sticking around, and I love you!

Have an awesome week. xxoo

  1. Like You wrote : one day at the time. Take it easy, there is no need to worry, or run, just relax and figure out what you Really want to do with your life, but take no pressure, what must be, it will be. Take care.

  2. Somehow the Psychology always makes you question yourself. I think sometimes it is not about taking it one day at a time. but being able to step awy from it and refresh your view on you.
But te two majors have a lot in common. Since the latter uses the first alot.
Hope you will find your way again. Stop breath and look at where you are. Than look ahead on where to go one step at a time.

  3. I’ve definitely felt lost on my research recently, and feel that it has been leaving me more myopic. However, you never know when you’ll find that bit of inspiration or obvious thing which propels you forward.

I really like your bow-and-arrow analogy, because in some sense, that’s what I’ve been doing the last few weeks after the high of a published paper.

  4. My Dad had the best advice – “Your job may not be something you love, but it should be something that you can enjoy and will give you satisfaction.” I work in a position that’s mind-numbing, but has allowed me to meet the most awesome people. It’s not my ideal job (that would be running a bar on a beach)…

The second best advice – “Your job should be something that allows you to do the things you enjoy.” My job has a long commute (hour+ both ways), but it allows me to listen to my “Doctor Who” audio plays and also to nap if need be. And I know, when I leave the office, my work stays behind, so I truly enjoy my time off.

I know this isn’t the most heartening advice for someone in college, but don’t think of it as “a job in the real world.” Work isn’t the real world. Pick something you’ll be able to do and enjoy and will allow to explore the world around you.

  5. I went back to college at 21; didn’t have a clue what I wanted to do; I was depressed before that; and my stepbrother told me “life begins at 21,” and it did, and then at 41, 51, 61, 71; it gets better; by then a lot of road travelled and a lot of lessons and wisdom stick to the ribs; You sound wonderfully normal; hugs

  6. I empathize with you having taught for over forty years. Forty years of tests, more tests, and guess what, you are right more tests. One comment to make your day. The final was given after the grades had to be in. So we estimated the grades. Now after a full year it probably was a pretty good estimate but we never graded the finals, just trashed them. Those were the pathetic years.

      1. Most of it really does not. Live your life and do not let your life waste your time with frivolous activities. Climb a mountain, swim in a lake and soar in the sky, for that is the joy of life.
